Two Feet Four Paws
Dog Walking Service
About Us
A quick note--when we say "we", we really mean "I" in the sense that there is
is only "me". I do all the walking, all the paperwork, all by myself (okay so
my wife does come along sometimes). I use "we" to refer to the entity that is
Two Feet Four Paws. Actually, it's really more an imperial "we". For example
if instead of Queen Victoria saying "We are not amused" meaning herself and God
I say "We think the monarchy is full of itself" it would mean myself and the
company I represent, including the dogs. Just wanted to clear that up. Let's
move on, shall we (meaning myself and you the viewer)?
My name is Grant Gilbert. I began walking dogs in December of 1999. I walked for a service in
Chicago for six months before deciding that it was silly to be doing all the
walking and getting only half the money. Evanston, it seemed to me, was the natural place
to start my own service seeing that I live here and am quite familiar with the area.
So in the summer of 2000, I launched Two Feet Four Paws and have been doing it ever since.
Now, it may seem that isn't a very long time, but think of it this way: An average week will
have between eight and twelve walks per day, excluding Saturday and Sunday, although I
do have walks on those days, just not as many. So aiming for the middle, that's roughly
fifty walks per week, plus two or three on the weekend. Fifty three multiplied by fifty
two weeks comes out to two thousand seven hundred and fifty six walks per year,
or somewhere around five thousand five hundred and fifty six walks
since I started the business.
All kinds of weather, morning, afternoon and evening.
I have never had a dog injured, lost, or stolen.
I have never had to have a home re-keyed or had any cause to file a
insurance claim for damaged, lost or stolen possessions in my clients homes.
I have never been fired by a client.
I have done seven house sitting jobs lasting an average of one week to ten days,
the longest being three weeks. My clients are very pleased with the service
I provide and have said as much. In the interest of full disclosure, I have
had to drop two clients, one whose dog just didn't like me, another because the
job was to far afield. I have broken one soap dish, one glass, one dinner plate
and in the first week of July 2002, a lamp. Dangit!
I think it's fair to say that I'm very experienced in this line of work
and that I know how to walk a darned dog.
More importantly, I excel at it. I treat every dog as I would want one my own pets
treated, and not to put too fine a point on it, you would be well served
by hiring me to walk your dog. I mean us. My Service. Our service. Whatever.
